Whale watching season in Sydney runs from May to November, when humpback whales migrate along Australia’s east coast between Antarctica and Queensland.
This migration brings whales directly past Sydney, making sightings consistent throughout the season.
For most travellers, July & August offer the highest number of whale sightings, while September to October offer more interactive behaviour with mother’s and calves.
In saying this, we do see whales no 99% of our trips across the entire season.
Don’t let a little rain or choppy conditions put you off whale watching. In fact, whales are often more active and expressive in lively ocean conditions, with many guests witnessing spectacular breaches, tail slaps and surface activity during overcast or windy days.
While sunny weather can make for great sightseeing, some of our most memorable whale encounters happen when the ocean has a bit more energy.
Our experienced crew closely monitor weather and sea conditions well in advance, and we only operate when conditions are safe for whale watching. If we’re sailing, you can relax knowing the conditions have been thoroughly assessed by our team.
